Get Fresher Breath
Bad breath (“halitosis”) can be embarrassing. Breath malodour isn’t simply a personal concern, it can also affect your social and professional life.
Perhaps you’ve tried everything without any results. Or, you’ve become desensitised to the odour altogether. Our oral health team is happy to privately and discreetly assist you with managing this awkward condition.
What Causes Bad Breath?
Most people tend to think that halitosis is caused by odorous foods or not brushing their teeth often enough. While both of these factors do have a role to play, individuals who are self-conscious about breath malodor usually take steps to address them. If bad breath continues to be of a concern, it could be related to one of the following conditions:
- Periodontal (gum) disease
- Tobacco use
- Dry mouth (xerostomia)
- Medications or supplements
- Underlying medical conditions
In most situations, underlying gum disease is the primary factor but undiagnosed health problems may also be to blame.
It’s best to avoid using mints or mouthwash to cover bad breath; sugars or alcoholic solutions could make it worse.
We recommend a re-vamped brushing and flossing routine as well as daily tongue cleaning to lift away odorous bacteria. If periodontal disease is present, deep cleaning will be necessary to reach bacteria deeper under the gums. After a healthy environment is established, we’ll help you maintain a disease-free smile through regular checkup and cleans to keep bad breath away.
Occasionally, you may need to speak to your medical provider to address breath malodor related to a pre-existing health condition, such as gastrointestinal diseases or diabetes.
